I began this blog, and this particular interview, as a way of focusing on interesting people promoting opera in revolutionary ways while surviving in a national climate that has become increasingly hostile toward the arts.
In this case, inquiring as to how a relatively young company was able to produce such quality performances on such limited budget.
However what began as an interview with a young impresario challenging the status quo, became a terrifying look a tthe seedy underbelly of arm twisting, blackmail, and ransom that has become the modus operandi of Brendan Cooke and the Baltimore Concert Opera.
In fact, the handsome, mild mannered facade that Mr. Cooke ahas presented over the past few years hides a darker, more sinister reality. What unfolds in this short expose is not meant for the faint of heart of the wine connoisseur.
